to Infotravel is immense, blending her long experience in the travel trade with marketing skills.

Throughout last year we received thousands of comments and after an
extensive evaluation we were able to accommodate most of them, that the
size be more user friendly, more in the style of a pocket guide book. As such we appreciate the support we got from our advertisers who wholeheartedly agreed to the change.

We are also pleased to announce to our readers that our website has been
improved with many new features for your convenience, which is also good
news for our sponsors.

As we have repeatedly mentioned, Sri Lanka is a country many love to visit,
offering holidaymakers an array of activities to experience - nature, culture
and people. Accommodation is available from star class to medium and budget range which we have categorized accordingly. Other conveniences include home stay units and holiday bungalows. Heritage sites, beaches, national parks, hills, and activities such as camping, boating, water sports, health care activities, and meditation, all make Sri Lanka a land like no other.

You will find that this guide book is not a mere advertisers’ forum though we
need their contribution to bring this information to you. We give maximum
possible exposure to them as our partners.

We are happy to see Infotravel at World Travel Markets in London and Frankfurt, as well as in bookshelves all over the country. Readers are most
welcome to comment on our efforts towards promoting Sri Lanka on

Happy Journey !!!

You may be planning to drive your own vehicle or maybe use a hired one, but make sure the vehicle is mechanically sound and in good order.
Get the vehicle thoroughly inspected by your mechanic.
Replace all worn-out parts.
Pack in all the spares required for any emergency and the tool kit.
Make sure the spare wheel is on standby.
Make sure that you load only things that you absolutely need.
Check all revenue license and insurance of the vehicle.
You can use the Motor Guide published by us for assistance at any emergency.
When to Start
Calculate the time backwards from the final destination
Add supplementary time for visiting the places on your way
Confirm the time with the place where you are going to stay at the final destination.
(Road maps and the distance chart will help you to make these estimates without much difficulty)
Food and Water are very important and you will not get them wherever or whenever you want; it’s better to prepare at least one meal as you could get stranded somewhere or held up by a breakdown or some other mishap.
Meals must essentially be prepared when you are travelling with kids.
Always carry some confectionary items and water.
Get everybody involved in pre-trip planning, especially as kids will get a good exposure in this.
Plan the accommodation; if you are looking for budget accommodation it’s always advisable to carry your sleeping needs.
Take a good country map in order to have a closer overview of the country.
Take sufficient money for the entire journey. We also have provided
information of ATMs on the Road Maps.
Do not rely on your credit cards alone.
Compartmentalize your goods and pack your vehicle in such a way that you could easily access contents. For instance, Food, clothes, medicine, emergency needs, tools, spares etc.
Keep informed a reliable person where you are going and when you plan to return.
Take an umbrella and a torch always in your vehicle.
Remember to take your phone charger and emergency phone numbers.
First Aid
Make sure that you take a well-stocked first aid kit, when you have the supplies you need to be ready for most minor emergencies. alls, bee stings, burns, allergic reactions - all of these are common accidents that can happen in any home or on any outing.

Our desire is to see pleasant travellers everywhere! How can one be a pleasant and decent traveller? We hope the person who drives the vehicle keeps everybody happy on the journey. It’s so simple to be pleasant if you decide right now. One who respects the other travellers, pedestrians or other users of the road, which is a public property, becomes pleasant !!

Remember speed is a thriller and a killer. Why you travel is to enjoy with your family or colleagues. By travelling slow, reasonable speed will slow down your thinking, your body and allow you to absorb the environment passing through, allow you to talk with other travel partners. Isn’t it enjoyable? As you know, roadways in Sri Lanka are not the same everywhere. There could be humps and pits in the middle of roads. Be careful when passing and overtaking other vehicles. Remember there are very few pleasant travellers, but once you become pleasant there will be a day that everybody will become pleasant. Stick to Good Travel Etiquettes.

Do not allow to throw litter or any scraps when you are moving and keep all the rubbish with you until a proper place to dispose of them is reached.

Be careful when parking. Make sure that you always lock the vehicle. At some places there are people who ask money for parking, ask the rate beforehand. Some people wash your vehicle; agree to an amount beforehand.

Talk to people when you want to get photographs and get their consent. Remember, not only people, there are places (with historical value) where you are not allowed to take photographs.

When your vehicle breaks down, find out where you are, near which Km post. The road map shows you the nearest garage; seek for help from another traveller. In any case do not leave anybody inside the car without opening shutters. It is a good practice that you too help if you see somebody seeking help on the road, but be very careful !!
